Forwarding calls from your Weave number can help you stay connected when you’re using Upfirst’s AI answering service, away from the office, or simply don’t want to miss important customer calls. This page will show you step-by-step how to set up different types of call forwarding with Weave, whether you want all calls sent to a new number or only missed calls.

How to forward unanswered calls from Weave

If you want your Weave number to ring your team first but forward unanswered calls to an answering service, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Weave app on your computer or mobile device and log in as a Super Admin.
  2. Click the Settings icon in the top-right corner and select Phone from the left-hand menu.
  3. Under Main Line or a Department, choose the line you want to configure.
  4. Go to Phone Hours & Call Routing and select the hours this rule should apply to (e.g., Open Hours).
  5. Set your routing to a Call Group that includes the phones you want to ring first.
  6. In the Fallback Options, enter the external phone number for your answering service. Use the full 10-digit number, including area code.
  7. Save your changes.

Calls will now ring your team first, and if no one answers within the configured timeout period, they’ll automatically forward to your answering service.

Need to adjust the number of rings before forwarding?
The number of rings is determined by your Call Group’s timeout setting, which might not be something you can edit yourself. If you don’t see an option to adjust this, contact Weave Support at 1-888-579-5668. Have your main line phone number and admin email ready when you call.

Forwarding all calls during holidays or closures (Scheduled Call Forwarding Override)

If you want all calls to forward directly to an answering service (without ringing your team first) — such as during a holiday — you can set up a Scheduled Call Forwarding Override:

  1. In the Weave app, click Calls in the left navigation.
  2. Scroll down and select Settings, then click Overrides in the Phone Settings section.
  3. Click + Create Override.
  4. Choose Override Type and select Forward Call.
  5. Enter the number for your answering service.
  6. Optionally, set a Start and End Time so Weave knows when to enable and disable forwarding automatically.
  7. Click Create Override.

When this override is active, a banner will appear at the top of the Weave app where you can easily manage or adjust the override if needed.

How to turn off call forwarding in Weave

  • To stop fallback forwarding, remove the fallback number from your call routing settings.
  • To disable a Scheduled Override, delete or turn off the override in the Overrides section of the app.

FAQs about call forwarding on Weave

Can I forward calls after a certain number of rings?
Yes, but this is configured using Call Group fallback routing. The timeout period (number of rings) may require assistance from Weave Support to adjust.

Can I forward all calls immediately?
Yes, by setting up a Scheduled Call Forwarding Override.

Will my phone still ring when forwarding is active?
If you’re using Call Group fallback forwarding, your phones will ring first and then forward unanswered calls. If you enable a Call Forwarding Override, all calls will go directly to the forwarding number and your phones won’t ring at all.

Can I forward text messages too?
No. Weave’s forwarding only applies to phone calls. Texts will remain in your Weave system.

Can I forward calls to multiple numbers?
Not directly. You can set up a Call Group to ring multiple devices internally before forwarding externally, but Weave forwards to one external number at a time.
